And now onto the question. If you read this interview from the other day, you know that I am really hoping for a new sewing machine for Christmas. I would really love some advice on what to get. If you have a minute, please leave a comment and tell me what you use. I'd appreciate any recommendations!

Have a wonderful weekend!
xoxo, Angela

Oooh, a new machine!! Awesome!

I don't know too much about newer machines but I'll put my cheer in for Janome! I have a Janome machine (Memory Craft 4800) from my Mom. It's about 10 years old and has served me VERY well! It has never been serviced (or taken for a cleaning, whoops)! For being 10 years old it actually has lots of great features. I've never used any other brand machine, but I no complaints about Janome!

I have a BabyLock Decorator's Choice and I LOVE it! I don't have any experience with any other machines, but I've had mine for just over a year and it has been able to handle everything I've thrown at it.

I've always used Singer machines, but now that I'm quilting, and working my Singer so hard that I know I'm going to need a replacement in a year or so, I'm looking at Juki TL-98Q. Crazy Quilt Mom recommends this machine, too. It doesn't zigzag, but for quilting, it's got a wider throat, and is a real powerhouse, apparently. And, at least to me, it seems reasonably priced for my next step up. Good luck and I'll be interested to see what you end up with!

Bernina all the way baby! I loooove my 440QE, just go test drive one. Not cheap but they offer 12 mo no interest financing.

Great interview- I somehow missed that one!

My Mom who has been sewing for over 50 years and has had a billion sewing machines swears by Bernina. So that is what I will be getting. Depending on how much money I save up will depend on which one I get.

LOVE my Babylock Ellure plus. It has embroidery so if you don't need that you can get the step down from it that is just quilting machine I think. I specifically bought it for the automatic tension and I absolutely LOVE it! I've had it for 4 years I think and have had NO problems with it! Hope you get and awesome machine;) I'm really wanting babylock's Imagine serger now - with auto tension and air threading. It's a dream to sew on!!

Oh dang, I didn't win.... is it wrong that I'm secretly hoping that one of the winners doesn't email you so that I get a second chance? *grin*

Oooh a new sewing machine, how fun!! My last sewing machine was a Singer and it served me quite well for 10 years but I'll admit I abused the poor girl and she wasn't made for bulky layers and I used to make a lot dog clothing with heavy layers of fabric and when it started to stitch off kilter and couldn't be repaired it was time to look for a new one.

So my new machine is a Janome Sewist 625E and i LOVE it :) Oh my goodness can that thing sew through anything and I love the electronic needle start and stitch speeds. I've had it for about a year now, no problems and the price was very reasonable to :) Can't wait to see what you get!

My family has always used Singers & they have served us very well. I currently own a Singer Futura which does embroidery as well. I love it & it's much more reasonably priced than some other of the big name quilting machines.

Congrats to the winners!

I guess for a sewing machine, it's based sometimes on what you can afford...at least it was for me. I like Kenmore, because that what I grew up using...so I have one that I call my workhorse machine.

I also have a Brother PC 420 - I know Innovis would've been better, but way out of my budget.

Lastly, I have a second hand singer embroidery machine. But I haven't heard good things about new singers.

I have a friend that recommends Phaff machines.

I hope you have fun shopping for one!

I'm in the Bernina crowd too. I sewed on one for years, tried to go to something else, and hated it. I have the 440QE and LOVE it. I don't think I could sew on anything else.

I had only ever experienced sewing with a cheap EuroPro "Shark" from Target before I got my awesome new machine. I took some classes at my LQS which also deals in Pfaff. I fell in love with the Quilt Expression machines because they have a built-it walking foot that can be used along with other foot attachments, and the throat of the machine is 4 inches wider than your average machine. It has tons of stitches and digital selection buttons... I haven't even used all of its different functions yet, but I know they'll be there when I'm ready to try them!

I have had a Bernina for 12 years and it has been a great machine. However,I was in the market for a new one as I think I have just plain work the Bernina out! So I just purchased a Janome 6600 - it was a great price and I got it for the longer bed, scissors cut, pedal free sewing, and ease of free motion quilting. You should at least try it. There is an awesome dealer in North East, PA. Excellent service and support from them!

fun, a new machine? I just got a Janome Memory Craft 5500. My uncle is a sewing machine repair man, so he recommended this one based on my budget and needs. I really love it, but it does have a couple things that bug me. It has the smallest button ever for backstitching and the slope of the front part of the machine makes it kind of hard to see the needle, etc. But I've looked at a lot of machines and this seems to be pretty much par for the course with any other machine. I did start peeking at berninas, there's a new one that looks really cool *I'm a sucker for good marketing and style

I'd vote for a Janome, too. I've had one for the past couple of years and I love it. I think mine is the 6600, too.
I do hope you get a nice sized box under the tree this year! :)

i do not love my babylock quilter's choice. my stitches are often uneven and i have tension issues. if i had the money, i'd buy a bernina aurora. the stitch regulator would be awfully nice. good luck!
