pillow #2

Here is my second pillow for the week

I really love all of the "plus" quilts that have been popping up all of the net, so I thought I'd try a smaller version. This is another 18inch pillow cover.

I used lots of my favorite fabrics in this one. There is a little Flea Market Fancy, American Jane MonPez, Happy Campers, Flutterby Ladybugs, Alexander Henry Farmdale, etc.

The back is Farmdale Curios, and the binding is Freebird Ovals. Rather than making a normal hem, I used the Farmdale selvedge... Love selvedges!!

One of my favorite things about the pillow is the quilting. It took a little while, but was definitely worth it. I think it adds a lot of character.

And here are the two together in their new home. Pillow #3 is almost done, I have to hand sew the binding and it will be finished. More on that soon. :)
xoxo, Ang

What a great pair! My couch is so getting new pillows after Christmas! Cool idea to use the selvedge that way.

Ang-
What kind of machine are you sewing on now?? I have a fairly simple SINGER that I have probably had for 15-20 years, no walking foot and not real good for trying to quilt. I don't want a fancy, smancy machine, but looking for other recommendations from anyone else about the machines they are using and having good luck with.
I'm loving these pillows.

So different yet complimentary at the same time.
Whatever will you make next?!

I love how you used the salvage for the envelope opening! I might need to steal that idea in the future!

Ooo I love the pillows, they are perfect!

@Karen Sue - I recently purchased a Bernina Activa 220 (I think) and it is great. It is one of the lowest model offered by Bernina and it doesn't have anything particularly wonderful, but it is a workhorse for sure. No matter what, my two favorite features of my machine are:

1) the ability to stay in the Needle Down position
2) the knee lever attachment that allows me to lift/lower the presser foot without using my hands.

If you want more information, feel free to email me at craftmylifeaway@gmail.com or visit my blog at www.craftmylifeaway.blogspot.com

The pillows are wonderful, they for sure make me want to revamp my couches!

Love the plus one! My SIL wants pillows for Christmas, and I think a plus one is definitely going to have to be one of them.

Your pillows are so dang cute and very clever. Question: Do you sew binding around the edges like a quilt? I'm thinking this is a very good idea. Just wanted to tell you I enjoy your blog and am now a follower. Diane in Tampa, FL

Popped over from pleasant-home and am glad I did. you have a great blog.
Love the pillows you made. So much beautiful fall color in them.
Have you ever done a tutorial on how you make these? I am wanting to make some shams and want to put binding on them like you did with your pillow, but not sure how to do it.
