After all of the boy quilt photos, it is time to share a girl quilt! In case you didn't know, we are expecting our first little girl (after having two wonderful little boys) in a little over three weeks. I made her this quilt a few weeks ago.
Her name will be Finley Grace, and I had the hardest time deciding on fabric and a layout for her quilt. I initially wanted to use the out-of-print
Freshcut line from Heather Bailey, but when I came across Joel Dewberry's latest line,
Modern Meadow, I completely fell in love. Totally inspired by
blueberry4park's quilt for her daughter, I came up with this quilt.
It is such a simple quilt, and it came together so quickly. I cut the Modern Meadow into 5 inch squares, and added a few extra favorites. It is paired with 5 inch strips of Essex linen/cotton blend in Putty, which I embroidered.
This is the first quilt I used embroidery in, and I am totally thrilled with the results. Using a water-soluable pen, I drew the flowers, wavy lines, and her name and then embroidered it in bright pink. Super simple, and it totally makes the quilt.
The backing is a combination of my favorite fabric from the line (Dogwood) and some Lush woodgrain (if you follow this blog at all, you know how much I love that fabric).

The binding is Honeycomb, and it is also from the same line.
I've been decorating her nursery around this quilt, so be prepared for several more posts on that.
