Double hourglass

Doc was out of town this past weekend, so I had a couple late night sewing sessions. The result:

Now I just need to decide on a fabric for a border so that I can finish the top.

In my sewing machine.

I am almost finished quiliting my Heather Ross coin quilt. The plan is to be done by the weekend. Can't wait to curl up under it with a cup of coffee and a good book.

Happy Monday!

crochet cloths and pottery.

I sent out a large package of crochet cloths to my dear friend Karen of The Brick Kiln this week. I crocheted 25 cloths for her to use as Christmas gifts. Aren't they pretty?

I also received a large package from Karen this week. Inside were the six pieces of pottery that she and her daughter made for me. They will be used as Christmas gifts, and they are absolutely gorgeous (to say the least). As always, I'm blown away by the beauty of their art.

The little deer is my favorite.

Make sure you go check out their lovely shop!

Ravelry

Hey all! Just curious to see if any of you are on Ravelry? I just started an account here. Yeah, there isn't anything on it yet, I'm still trying to figure it out! But if you are on there, make sure you send me your link!

Hey friends! Just wanted to let you know that there will be a big shop update. I will be listing new items in the shop all day, so make sure you check them out! A sneaky peak...

a mess.

Here are a couple of photos of my sewing room at one point yesterday. I was pulling out all of my fabric, looking for sometime in particular, and before I new it, there was a huge mess. But least it was pretty, right?

I spy a quilt top, a new quilted clutch, fabrics for a few Jane Market bags (future Christmas gifts), lots of new minky for rag quilts, and a pretty Amy Butler hobo bag.

Double hourglass.

I'm so excited about my newest quilt! I've always loved double hourglass quilts, but never wanted to put the time and effort into the piecing. I had been bouncing ideas around in my head for awhile, figuring out how to make them easier. When I came across this tutorial at CluckCluckSew, I was so excited! This was exactly what I had been thinking, but hadn't taken the time to figure it out! It is quick and easy, and the blocks are beautiful.

I am using my Pop Garden (by Heather Bailey) scraps from previous rag quilts sold in my etsy shop. This is one of my all-time favorite lines of fabric. I decided to add some American Jane Pez, Flea Market Fancy sprouts, and japanese hedgehogs.
These are my favorite blocks so far:

I have about half of the squares assembled, so I have lots of sewing ahead of me. Sounds like a perfect way to spend a rainy autumn afternoon to me!

absent but not idle...

I haven't spent much time on the internet as of late, but I have spent quite a bit of time sewing.

Don't you love my new quilted pouch for my purse? I love carrying big bags, so I use smaller pouches or bags for the inside to organize all the contents (if you know me, I am big into organization). When I saw the tutorial here, I decided to make a version of it for myself. It was so fun, and only took one afternoon to make. I used all of my favorites from my Flea Market Fancy collection, and I love seeing them everytime I reach into my purse. I told my husband that, and he just laughed. I'm pretty sure my quilting friends can relate!

I loved making this pouch so much! I think I might make a few more for my shop! (Thanks Christina, aka the SometimesCrafter, for the thumbs up and best wishes for happy sales. Your the best!)

And speaking of the shop... I just received my new business cards in the mail this week, and I love them. I got the idea to print my cards on fabric from my brilliant fabric designer friend, Ariel. I just love seeing my owl on fabric!

2 Christmas gifts DONE!

I finished up two quilts this week. You've seen some pictures of this first one, and I am so happy with the finished product. I ended up doing the binding by machine, and it turned out pretty good. Not quite as pretty as when it is sewn by hand, but good enough. As you can see, the boys love the quilt and immediately tried to take it over, so I had to pack it away until Christmas.

This second is a tablecloth zigzag quilt for my mother in law. Her kitchen is decorated in the country apples, so this will fit in nicely. Though the fabrics are not my cup of tea, the quilt was fun to make. I used a rail-fence pattern to create the zigzag and then finished the binding by hand.
