Finley's travel quilt

I really enjoy making travel size quilts in my shop, Raggedy Owl. I thought I'd share some photos of the one I made for Finley.

Fabrics: pink seedlings (Flea Market Fancy by Denyse Schmidt), pink gnomes (Munki Munki pajamas from Heather Ross), green Wallflower (Amy Butler), and some flowers from Sandi Henderson's Meadowsweet.

Backing: pink dot minky.

I usually keep it with her in her car seat, since it is the perfect size quilt to take on the go. It has been a little chilly the last couple days, so I've been using it to cover her during naptime in her Moses basket.

I love rag quilts, especially for babies. Both of my boys loved the raggedy edges and were constantly playing with them. Finley is already started to run her little hands over the soft fabric.

innocent crush

Anna Maria Horner's latest line, Innocent Crush, is as beautiful as I thought it would be. I love these vibrant colors, and I think that it will make a gorgeous autumn quilt.

So what am I doing to do with these fabrics?
I'm thinking these plus with Kona Ash in this block will be amazing.
You think?

Virgil and Leon

Meet Virgil the mini donkey and Leon the mini horse. They are the newest additions to our farm.

Aren't they too stinking cute?

Life on our little farm just got a whole lot more fun.

things I love today.

My new Halloween bunting. Made from Amy Butler's Full Moon dots in lime and super cute and cheesy Halloween fabrics from JoAnn's.

My favorite coffee mug from my BFF Vanesa. It is the best because it has a lid. Without it, I'd never have a hot cup of coffee.

My new carpet, which was my birthday present! I love love love it. It is so soft and pretty. :)

Hope you are having a wonderful Saturday!

the best mail day

Today I had the best mail day.

I ordered this purse from Made by Hank almost two weeks ago.

Since she was running a little behind, Katie was kind enough to include a matching zippy pouch for me.

Now I have a whole set. Aren't they pretty?

I also got an order of yarn in the mail, so I the [harvest] and [bold] crochet cloth collections are once again available in the shop. Thanks for your patience, I'm still getting back into the swing of things. Life is a little more hectic with a baby in the house. :)

Have a happy Friday!

cassette tapes

I made this cute little zipper pouch this weekend. Isn't this cassette tape fabric from Timeless Treasures so fun?? It matches Amy Butler's Full Moon polka dots in lime perfectly, and come on, who doesn't love a hot pink zipper? :)

Since I'm always lugging Finley's diaper bag around, I rarely get to carry a purse anymore. Now that I have this cute little pouch, my chapstick, gum, and keys aren't bouncing around in her bag. No more digging through mounds of diapers and extra clothes!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention that I am on Twitter now. I am just getting started so come find me @ raggedyowl!

preschool

My eldest son Weston started his last year of preschool this week. He is gone three mornings a week this year, which seems to be just right for now.

Next year he will be off to kindergarten. I am already sad thinking about it.

Also, here is an interesting shot from this week. We have had two foxes running around our property lately, and I caught one in the driveway this week. Kinda cute but weird. Even though we've been out here for 6 months now, I'm still not used to this country living!

a new bag for me

I made myself a new market bag this week.

It is such a quick and fun project to make. And of course I had to use some of my new (HR roses and Girl Friday writing line) and old (American Jane mono pez) favorites.

I've made these in the past, but this time I decided to fully line it with medium weight interfacing, and I love the result. It is a little stronger and holds its shape very nicely.

I took it with me Friday morning to my weekly scrapbooking date with my girlfriends. While they scrapbook, I sew and crochet. This week I brought along travel quilts that I was able to finish up for my shop.

And now it sits in the kitchen, waiting for me by the door. I just love it!

belly sleeping

Just a little update for this post on the baby girl. Naptime has been wonderful since she has been napping on her belly. In general, they are 2-4 hours (I know!!!) and and seems more rested and happy. That makes this mama very happy, which in turn makes everyone else in the house very happy. She still sleeps on her side during the night and wakes up once (sometimes twice) to eat, but I am very very happy with that.

Don't you just love when they sleep with their little butts up in the air? Doesn't get much cuter than that! And she is two months old tomorrow... where did that time go??

Hope you are having a wonderfully crafty week!

PS - Thanks so much for all of the sweet comments and emails about this. I really appreciate them, and they are so helpful. You all are the best.

change of plans

I planned on trimming my lastest FMF blocks during naptime today.
.

That was until this came in the mail:

Instead I think I'll enjoy some quiet time with my brand new Ikea catalog, my mug rug, and a nice cold Diet Coke.
Good times.

smell the roses

If you've been reading my blog for awhile, you know that Heather Ross is my favorite fabric designer. I love her whimsical style, and her drawings are so sweet. My favorites are from one of her old lines, Lightning Bugs and Other Mysteries. I even got to spend a weekend sewing with her in Vermont last year (blogged here).

As much as I enjoy her fabrics, up until this past week, I have never bought any of the fabric from either of her Far Far Away lines. Not because I didn't think they were cute, I just did not have any use for the very girly fabric in a house full of boys.

But that all changed when these pretty roses from her Far Away 2 line arrived this week. I am totally in love with this fabric! So far I have three of the colorways and the fourth is on the way. I have plans for bags, pillows, and pouches, and I could literally use some of this fabric in every room of my house and not get tired of it.

I definitely have a new favorite fabric line. I just bought a few fat quarters of Lizzy House's Castle Peeps, and I absolutely adore it. This batch was bought especially to make travel quilts for the shop, but I am planning on buying the entire line for myself very soon.

Jojo on Chelsea's quilt top, 10. Castle Peeps, 11. Hexagons for PMQG swap, 12. Castle Peeps Quilt - View #3, 13. Castle Peeps room

another one.

I made another mug rug yesterday afternoon. I wanted to see what coordinates with the Farmdale Blossom in aqua, and this is what I came up with. It is such a fun, quick project, easily done in an afternoon.

I used a few of my favorites, like Erin Michaels' Uptown Birds and Tula Pink Ladybugs in pink. The background is natural colored linen, the backing is Summer in the City Blossoms, and biinding is from Denyse Schmidt.

Each piece of fabric is attached using a raw edge applique method, and I included a couple of the pretty selvedges. It is about 6"x9", just right for a mug and a little snack.

Make sure you click on the Scrappy Mug Rug button on the left side of the page. The swap is closed, but you can check out many other super cute ones!
